About MATH 1234 A
Introduction to calculus of functions of one variable including: limits, continuity, techniques and applications of differentiation and integration. Credit not given for more than one course in the pair MATH 1212, MATH 1234 unless followed by MATH 1248 or MATH 1242. No credit following receipt of credit for MATH 1248 or above. Prerequisite: C- or better in MATH 1034 or a score of 76 or higher on the placement assessment.

Section Description
MATH 1234 (Calculus 1) is an introduction to the calculus of functions of one variable. This will include an understanding of the concepts of limits, continuity, the definition of the derivative, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus; techniques and applications of differentiation; basic integration, including integration by substitution; and applications of integration including area and volume. Topics will be presented with a level of depth and rigor appropriate for students pursuing degrees in technical fields such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, or the physical sciences. The computer algebra system Mathematica will be used throughout the course.
Section Expectation
Students are expected to attend class, complete the assignments, and ask for help when needed. Students are also expected to be fluent in the prerequisite material, including trigonometry.
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated through homework (WebAssign and Mathematica assignments) and in-class assessments (quizzes/exams).
