Explores the acute and long-term responses to exercise on the metabolic, skeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems. Prerequisites: ANPS 1190, ANPS 1200.

Section Description

The objective of this course is to provide a conceptual understanding of how the human body produces energy during rest and exercise; the acute and long-term effects of exercise/physical activity on the metabolic, skeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems; and the utility of exercise/physical activity to prevent and ameliorate some of the most common and costly (morbidity and mortality) chronic pathologies in the U.S. today.

Section Expectation

This course is lecture based, but questions and discussion are highly encouraged. Students should expect to study the course materials outside of class in preparation for exams and in class discussions.

Evaluation

There will be four in-class exams covering the material from the four logical sections comprised from the text, additional readings, and class lectures. Exams will consist of a variety of formats: T/F, multiple choice, matching, short-answer, and essay.
