Section Description
Students participate in practica experiences (i.e. internships) hosted by a campus unit/department at UVM or other approved institution/organization in higher education. In collaboration with their supervisor, students develop a practicum description and learning agreement to further develop their professional skills and understanding of the opportunities and complexities associated with educator work in higher education. Students and supervisors use the ACPA/NASPA Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Educators (ACPA & NASPA, 2016) and other relevant literature and standards to guide their engagement and reflection.
Section Expectation
Practicum experience equates to about 100 hours of time throughout the semester. Students also engage in midpoint and final reflection and feedback assignments and activities. Class discussion format determined with input from enrolled students. Contact instructor for schedule details.
Evaluation
Grades are based on practicum experience, reflection and application assignments, self-evaluation, and supervisor feedback.
