Section Description
1st Year College Chinese II is a continuation of 1st Year College Chinese I, seeking to develop students' communicating ability in the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in simple Chinese. Topics include food, clothing, time, dates, eating out, birthdays, locations, etc. During the semester, students will: Meet three times a week in class on MWF. Learn and practice listening, speaking, and reading online on Thursday. Do assigned homework regularly. Practice speaking in class and practice writing basic characters after class. At the end of the semester, students will be able to: 1) Speak Chinese with correct pronunciation and intonation by practicing reading aloud and by getting to know more about the sense group stress and the sentence tunes in Chinese; 2) Understand the basic Chinese grammatical concepts to better monitor one’s own Chinese language production; 3) Be aware of aspects of Chinese culture imbedded in the Chinese language; 4) Develop a better understanding of the structures of Chinese characters and their meanings; 5) Look up an unknown Chinese word or character in a Chinese dictionary.
