Section Description
Sports and Human Development investigates sport as a compelling lens through which we understand the human journey. Sport is far more than competition — it is a powerful developmental space where identity is formed, challenged, and reshaped across the lifespan. Through moments of growth, adversity, transition, and reinvention, sport mirrors the broader human experience.
This course examines sport as a lens for understanding human development and identity across the athlete life cycle, from early play and specialization to peak performance, injury, transition, and life beyond sport. Drawing on psychology, storytelling, and cultural analysis, students will explore how athletes (and people) navigate success, failure, belonging, and purpose. The course is accessible to athletes and non-athletes alike, emphasizing reflection, resilience, and meaning-making.
