The course culminates in a professional consulting presentation to Celonis representatives and University stakeholders.
Open to students from all majors. No prior experience with Process Intelligence software or programming is required.
Section Expectation
This experiential course provides students with an opportunity to apply analytical thinking, economic reasoning, and data-driven decision making to an authentic organizational consulting project in partnership with Celonis, a global leader in Process Intelligence.
Unlike a traditional lecture course, the learning experience is centered on a 6-week consulting challenge. Celonis professionals introduce students to Process Intelligence, provide training in the software, explain the organizational context of the project, and supply both the operational dataset and the business problem to be solved. Students learn directly from industry experts while gaining experience with the same analytical tools used by leading global organizations.
Working in interdisciplinary consulting teams, students investigate organizational processes, analyze operational data, identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement, evaluate alternative strategies, and develop evidence-based recommendations. Projects emphasize improving organizational performance through better decision-making, more efficient business processes, cost savings, operational effectiveness, and responsible resource management.
Students gain practical experience transforming complex operational data into actionable recommendations for organizational leaders. The course emphasizes the skills most sought by employers in consulting, finance, business analytics, operations, technology, and public policy, including:
· evidence-based decision making;
· process and operational analysis;
· business analytics and data visualization;
· economic analysis of organizational tradeoffs;
· collaborative problem solving;
· consulting and client communication;
· executive presentations; and
· translating analytical findings into practical recommendations.
Students conclude the course by presenting their consulting recommendations to Celonis professionals, University faculty, and invited industry representatives.
The course is open to students from all majors and is especially appropriate for students interested in economics, business, finance, accounting, management, computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, data science, environmental studies, and public policy.
No prior experience with Process Intelligence software, programming, or business analytics is required.
