About MUE 2125 A
Nine to sixteen vocalists (SATB), a cappella or accompanied by piano or rhythm section, performing arrangements of standard songs and jazz tunes. Open to students from all majors and colleges. Audition for placement. Prerequisite: Placement audition.

Section Description
Jazz Vocal Ensemble (JVE) is an SATB ensemble of 12 - 20 singers which focuses on developing reading, improvisational, and group collaboration skills as well as a sense of swing through learning a variety of repertoire. Every semester ends with a concert, generally accompanied by a rhythm section.
Section Expectation
We expect your full attention and participation in rehearsal; we want to see that you’re committed to learning the repertoire to the best of your ability. You should also plan to practice your JVE parts outside of rehearsal between two and three hours each week. Your commitment to practicing makes the group’s rehearsal time more efficient and effective. We encourage you to get together with other members to work on parts. As needed, recordings of individual part tracks as well as complete arrangements will be emailed or added the JVE Teams page for practice. Regarding solos, we do often have solo passages within the arrangements we sing, and we will announce a week ahead of time when we will be auditioning singers for these parts.
Evaluation
Attendance at all JVE rehearsals is required. If for any reason you must miss a class, please contact the director at least 24 hours in advance. If you need to miss a class for a religious holiday or observance, please notify the director by email. Other acceptable reasons for missing class are health issues and family emergency; prior notification is also required for these circumstances. Do not tell another member to inform us in class that you will be absent; please contact us directly.
