Section Description

Publication design refers to the process of creating and designing layouts for publications like newspapers, booklets, catalogs, magazines, books, and online equivalents. The goal is to make content logically organized, attractive, visually expressive and informative, as well as easy to read. Effective editorial design is cohesive and resonant. This area of communication design is about the thoughtful process of integrating text and imagery - to visually present engaging content in a range of multipage or screen formats.

Students will learn to apply publication design principles to create cohesive, engaging layouts for multipage publications in print and digital formats. They will develop skills in content organization, typography, composition, and the integration of text, photography, and illustration. Emphasis is placed on readability, accessibility, visual continuity, and adaptable layouts that support varied modes of interaction and align with the publication’s content, purpose, and intended audience.
