Section Description
In this class, students will learn quantitative and qualitative data analysis through a hands-on approach. Specifically, students will learn how to transform theory into empirical measures within the scope of a general research context. The main skill that students will learn is operationalization, with side quests in survey design, conducting observations, conducting interviews, producing descriptive and inferential statistics, and producing data visualizations. Emphasis will be on learning and practicing analysis skills during class, as well as building emotional endurance when data wrangling goes awry. Major assessments will involve completing reading checks, Stata program logs, exams, and short, in-class writing assignments.
Section Expectation
Students will receive ample support as they travel up the learning curve required for both data analysis and Stata programming. However, in order to receive support, attending and BEING attentive in class is required.
