About MATH 1224 E

Techniques and applications of integration. An introduction to multi-variable calculus: partial derivatives and double integrals. Prerequisite: MATH 1212 or MATH 1234.

Prereqs enforced by the system: MATH 1212 or 1234; Open to Degree and PACE students System waitlisting enabled for this section.

Section Description

Fundamentals of Calculus II is the second course in our two-course applied calculus sequence. The first course is Math 1212 – Fundamentals of Calculus I. The underlying applications of integral calculus will be investigated along with some methods for doing multivariable calculus. The topics will include, but not be limited to, integration by parts, improper integrals, various topics of integration including probability density functions, differential equations, and multivariable functions with multivariable calculus. If time permits, we will also investigate a few topics related to sequences and series. An emphasis will be made to understand these new concepts graphically, numerically, verbally, and algebraically. Please speak to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics if you are unsure if you are taking the correct calculus course.

Section Expectation

Required Course Materials: Online Homework Access

You will need an access code for MyLabMath online homework, which includes access to an eBook. The access code can be purchased directly from MyLabMath once the course Brightspace page is open.

There is a free trial period (about 14 days, I believe) for MyLabMath. I recommend taking advantage of the free trial period before purchasing anything. Once you purchase access to MyLabMath, it is completely non-refundable.
Students will be expected to spend 6-9 hours per week on this class.

Evaluation

Grades will be based on several homework assignments (unlimited attempts), two in-class midterm exams, and a final exam.
