Section Description

BECAUSE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I AM TEACHING THIS CLASS I CANNOT EXCLUDE MODIFICATIONS TO THE SYLLABUS - I ALSO HIGHLY SUGGEST TO WAIT FOR MY ANNOUNCEMENT BRIEFLY BEFORE THE SEMESTER STARTS BEFORE SPENDING MONEY ON COURSE MATERIALS

Italian 2200 is designed to integrate all of the knowledge attained in the previous levels with a particular emphasis on honing students' ability to interact with others in both written and spoken Italian. Many of the in-class and at-home activities will help develop comprehension skills and a large active vocabulary necessary for advanced level courses. In addition to reviewing key grammar points, we will gain practice in developing reading comprehension strategies through a short novel and two articles from newspapers and/or magazines, as well as additional materials such as songs. Throughout the semester this course will focus on expanding awareness of Italian culture and society.
In ITAL 2200, we will review grammar topics already studied in ITAL 1100 and 1200. I expect all students to get reacquainted with the already studied grammar topics at home prior to the class meetings focused on practicing these grammar structures. Difficult grammar points will be explained and gone over again. In class we will concentrate on the actual use of Italian and practice the material already studied at home. Be prepared to be called on at any time, please speak up in Italian and do not be afraid to make mistakes. There is no better way to learn the language.
