Section Description

Russian 2200 is the second part of a two-semester Intermediate Russian course intended for students who have completed Russian 2100 or the equivalent of three semesters of college Russian. Building on the vocabulary, grammatical structures, and communicative skills developed in previous courses, Russian 2200 emphasizes greater fluency, confidence, and independence in using the Russian language. Students continue to develop communicative and cultural competence through dynamic classroom interactions and active engagement with authentic Russian materials. Through meaningful communicative tasks, proficiency-oriented games, mingles, discussions, and other interactive activities, students expand their practical vocabulary, strengthen their understanding of Russian grammar, and develop the ability to communicate on an increasingly broad range of topics.

Using print and online textbook resources, as well as additional materials (songs, videos, films, and cultural presentations), students further develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills both individually, through regular written and online exercises, and collaboratively, in an engaging, high-energy classroom atmosphere. By the end of the course, students will have a working vocabulary of approximately two thousand words, increased confidence in navigating everyday communicative situations, a more systematic understanding of Russian grammatical structures, and a deeper awareness of Russian-speaking cultures and communicative norms. The course combines instruction in Russian and English, with increasing emphasis on the use of Russian in classroom interactions.
