Section Description
Are you a plant hobbyist, an outdoor enthusiast, or simply curious about the green world around you? The Green World introduces students to botany and plant biology through the lens of deep evolutionary time and the socio-scientific issues shaping our world today. We will explore plant structure, function, and development, as well as ecological interactions and patterns of plant evolution at both micro- and macro-scales. Throughout the course, students will engage with both popular and primary scientific literature in ways that reinforce and expand upon lecture material.
Section Expectation
By the end of the course, students will not only gain an appreciation for the weird and wonderful world of plants, but also develop key skills in scientific literacy, evaluating scientific arguments, and interpreting the scientific literature.
Evaluation
This asynchronous, online course includes weekly lectures and quizzes, regular homework and activities, and module-based exams. Please feel free to reach out to the instructor with any questions (Renee Petipas, Renee.Petipas@uvm.edu).
