About HSCI 3400 B
Review of principles of good writing with an emphasis on non-technical writing commonly used in health care organizations, and organizations that support health and health care in the U.S. and globally. Adaption of materials for lay or low literacy audiences. Prerequisites: HSCI 1980, HSCI 2500; Health Sciences major; Senior standing.

Section Description
This capstone writing course develops advanced analytical and professional writing skills in the context of public health and health practice. Students learn to communicate complex health information through clear, evidence-based writing for a range of audiences, including policymakers, community stakeholders, health organizations, and academic readers. The course covers professional modes of discourse (e.g., policy memos, research-based reports, and public-facing health communications) with attention to how each form is shaped by audience and purpose. Assignments follow a workshop model that is collaborative, student-centered, and adaptable to individual interests and goals. The course culminates in a portfolio of revised work that demonstrates readiness for professional and academic communication.
