About CDAE 2230 A
Examines the connections between media, public policy, and policy outcomes. Provides hands-on learning (action) experiences in news reporting and policy-making through the lens of the Vermont Legislature and Vermont's policy and media culture. Prerequisites: Any of the following: ENGL 1001, ENGL 1740, POLS 1300, CDAE 1020, CDAE 1150, CDAE 1240.

Section Description
This class focuses on how to use media, advocacy, campaigns, and community organizing to make and communicate public policy changes. We build the knowledge, skills, and theories to advocate for change, and apply that understanding in hands-on projects aimed at transforming policy at the local, national, and global level.
Section Expectation
Students in this course will complete a public influence campaign designed to make change in the real world, around a cause of their choosing.
The course involves weekly reading and reflection assignments, guest speakers,
media and communication material production and development, and the completion of projects aimed at changing public policy and communicating that policy to the wider public.
Evaluation
Students are evaluated on class participation and attendance, completion of reading
and reflection assignments, and project work in media, policy, and public communication
