About SPAN 3110 E
Writing practice, sentence structure, correct expression, and guided discussions in Spanish of cultural topics. A good command of basic grammar expected. May repeat for credit with different content. Topics vary by offering; periodic offering at intervals that may exceed four years. Prerequisite: SPAN 2200 or equivalent; or Instructor permission.

Section Description
Readings and films around the theme of friendship in hard times in Latin America. We will learn about different countries and do short readings on history, geography, and places of interest. Students will do a final project on a specific country. Writing practice, sentence structure, correct expression, and guided discussions in Spanish of assigned topics. A good command of basic grammar expected. This course is writing-intensive and focuses on different writing genres: description, narration, argumentation, and exposition. Several short compositions and writing assignments. Prerequisite: SPAN 2200 or equivalent. Catamount Core: GC2, WIL2.
Section Expectation
This course relies on discussion and participation. Students should expect to spend 6-8 hours a week on coursework outside of class, with additional time for exams and presentations. Students are expected to view three films outside of regular class times.
Evaluation
Grades will be based on attendance and participation, homework, 5 compositions with revisions, an oral presentation, two exams, and a final project.
