Section Description
Have you ever wondered how organisms are built to interact with their physical environment? Why can tiny spiders fly away on a strand of silk, but you could not? How do birds’ wings interact with the air to lift them off the ground? How do microscopic organisms move through water differently from fish? How do horses know when to change from a trot to a gallop? In this course we will explore how animals use simple physics to push against their environment and move themselves around in the process. Through in-class group activities, out of class preparation and practice, and exams, we will master the form and function, simple physics, and physiology of animal movement in water, land, and air.
