Explore a variety of topics related to representation and diversity in the broad field of literacy and children's literature. Students will further develop their understanding of the role that culturally responsive approaches to literacy and children's/adolescent literature selection can play in multicultural and social justice education.

Section Description
In this course, we will explore a variety of topics related to representation and diversity the broad field of literacy and children’s literature. Students will further develop your understanding of the role that culturally responsive approaches to literacy and children’s literature selection can play in multicultural and social justice education.
Section Expectation
This is an online course that meets once a week for three hours. Students are expected to complete reading and work in between classes. This course is a requirement for those looking to achieve the Vermont Specialized Literacy Professional Endorsement.
Evaluation
We will read widely both research on culturally responsive pedagogy and practice as well as authors of high-quality multicultural literature, evaluate multicultural texts/resources for use in our classrooms, and develop lesson plans and activities using high-quality examples of multicultural literature.
