Section Description

This Career Builder: LinkedIn course will focus on how professionals and students can use LinkedIn to build or strengthen their professional profile, find their next job or internship, and grow their professional network. This course fits within the CDAE curriculum because it uses communication theory to describe, analyze, and design online communication to connect online communities. Learning Objectives 1. Describe the basic assumptions of communication theories as they apply to communication on LinkedIn 2. Use communication theories to design a professional LinkedIn profile, strategically build a professional network, and write effective messages. 3. Identify how online communication competence can help professionals.

Section Expectation

1. Modules are due Jan 1-10. 2. You will NOT be required to attend synchronous meetings. This course is organized using BrightSpace modules. As long as assignments are submitted on time, you may complete online modules at your own pace and at times that work well for your schedule. 3. You should have a resume before entering the course. 4. Students with and without existing LinkedIn profiles are encouraged to enroll. 5. This course assumes that you are using a computer and have access to reliable internet. 6. This course assumes that you have a FREE LinkedIn profile.

Evaluation

LinkedIn Profile Assignment - Demonstrate student ability to apply communication theory to a LinkedIn concept, communication skill, and/or personal Modules will include readings, videos, and reflection activities. Each module will end with a graded Communication Builder assignment, which allows students to demonstrate their ability to apply communication theory from the module to a LinkedIn concept, communication skill, and/or personal experience/goal. Tentative Module Topics include: Profile URL Headline & Summary Personalized Connection Message Informational Interview Request SEO Optimization LinkedIn Trends
