Physical Education: Intro to Teaching Yoga

Includes practicing yoga, teaching elements of yoga, and learning the basic foundations of yoga and its history. Provides a yoga teaching experience and clarity on whether teaching yoga is right for the student.

In “Intro to Teaching Yoga,” we will have fun practicing yoga together, teach each other the different elements of a yoga class, and learn the basic foundations of yoga and its history. This class is a fun, community-oriented opportunity to get a taste of what it’s like to be a yoga teacher without the serious commitment involved with doing a full Yoga Teacher Training program. By the end of the course, you will have a deeper understanding of yoga and clarity about whether teaching yoga is right for you.

Expectations are that you participate with curiosity and be present physically for class, as well as mentally and emotionally. We’ll be doing some journaling most classes, so you’ll be expected to bring a journal and something to write with for that. Also, because we’ll be doing a yoga practice most classes, you’ll be expected to dress for doing yoga. And, of course, you'll be expected to be open to teaching and having fun practicing leading others in the yoga practice.

The main aspect of evaluation is that you are present in class. The real experience of this class is being in the class. We’ll be talking about yoga, practicing yoga, teaching yoga, and you can totally do these practices outside of class..you’ll get more out of it if you do…but the evaluation of the class is about attendance and your participation.
