About STAT 1050 B
Introduction to probabilistic and statistical reasoning, including applications to current scientific/social issues, with special focus on issues of poverty, criminal justice, environmental justice, and voting, and impact on diverse and disadvantaged populations. Prerequisites: Two years High School algebra; no credit for Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors in the mathematical and engineering sciences; credit for only one of STAT 051 and STAT 1050.

Section Description
An introductory course that assumes no knowledge of statistics. Cannot be taken for credit by students who are CEMS majors after the first year. Cannot be taken for credit after taking STAT 051 or STAT 052. Focuses on statistical reasoning and literacy including applications to current social issues and impact on diverse and disadvantaged populations.
Section Expectation
Students are expected to: Attend all class meetings. Engage with the material and your classmates. Treat all members of the learning community with kindness and respect. Seek help as needed. Complete weekly homework assignments. Take six quizzes (approximately every two weeks). Complete a final project.
Evaluation
Attendance & Participation in class are required and worth 10% of your grade. Other grading criteria are: Homework 15%, Quizzes 60%, and Project 15%.
