Section Description
The myriad accomplishments of the ancient Egyptians in so many cultural domains have profoundly inspired both ancient and modern civilizations for more than 5,000 years. Egypt was already quite old when the great empires of Persia, Greece and Rome began their rise to imperial hegemony. In order to understand the distant past, early wonderers - and wanderers - like the Greek Herodotus and the bilingual Egyptian Manetho began to travel and inquire from learned Egyptian priests about their history. Thus began the study of Egyptology, an undertaking which continues to enchant both academic and popular audiences with ever new discoveries and hieroglyphic texts! Our task as inquirers in 2025 is to forge our own investigation into the unique human expressions and rich natural environment that produced a monumental Egyptian culture.
