About CDAE 1170 A
Digital illustration introduces methods of conceptualizing and executing illustrations to solve communication problems, using a range of techniques within vector and raster-based software applications. Prerequisite: CDAE 1150 or ARTS 1400; Community Development & Applied Economics major or minor; or Instructor permission.

Section Description
Illustration is visual communication where drawing ideas are transformed into meaning. The creative process is key to illustration. In this course, the focus is placed on the process rather than the final product, on ideas rather than their application, and on the meaning behind the work rather than its style. Students will explore different methods of seeing and presenting ideas, with coursework designed to foster the conceptual creativity essential to understanding what illustration is and its potential. The course aims to enhance students' creative thinking, interpretative abilities, and communicate complex ideas with clarity and impact.
Section Expectation
Students are expected to attend class and work on individual projects. Students being with drawing. Sketchbooks and Adobe Creative cloud is required in the course. The focus is on computer lab work using Adobe Illustrator CC and Photoshop CC, lecture and demonstration. Students working off campus should have an Adobe software subscription, as well as a computer/laptop that is reliable and that runs this software. Development of work outside of class is expected.
Evaluation
Grades are based on attendance and participation during critique, and several individual-based projects including final projects.
