Techniques and applications of integration. An introduction to multi-variable calculus: partial derivatives and double integrals. Prerequisite: MATH 1212 or MATH 1234.

Section Description
You will master the basic methods of finding integrals (in one variable), solving differential equations (ditto), calculating probabilities and associated quantities (mean, median, variance, standard deviation), and solving problems in multivariable calculus (max/min, simple integrals). You will see enough of the theory behind these to understand, at least qualitatively, why they work instead of just taking them on faith as "recipes''. The textbook will be 'Calculus for Business, Economics, Life Sciences, and Social Sciences' (14th edition) by Barnett, Ziegler, Byleen, and Stocker. It should be in the bookstore. Approximate course contents: We will cover (in this order) chapters 6 (review of integration plus new methods), 9 (simple differential equations), 11 (topics in probability), and 7 (multivariable calculus).
