Section Description
Directed projects which explore the elements and principles of communication design. Design research, process, experimentation, and production in hand-based and computer-generated design application for multi-modal presentation. Design studio practices will be explored through lecture, analysis, discussion, and research components. Focus is given to development of compositional sensitivity; applying the principles of design while employing major elements; image, typography, color, and time to introduce theory and develop communication design content. Production of visual elements will explore various computer software for generation of photographic, illustrative, and sequential images for multimodal representation.
Section Expectation
This course is a studio-based class - including short lectures, design demos and discussion. Required materials for this course are a subscription to the Adobe Suite.
Evaluation
Grades are based on attendance, hands-on exercises in various Adobe applications, participation in design critiques, and four final projects including a symbolic portrait, historical typographic poster, infographic design and a printed poster.
