About STAT 3000 A
Introductory design and analysis of medical studies. Epidemiological concepts, case-control and cohort studies. Clinical trials. Students evaluate statistical aspects of published health science studies. Credit not awarded for both STAT 3000 and STAT 5000. Prerequisite: STAT 1110, STAT 1410, STAT 2430, or STAT 3210.

Section Description
Introductory design and analysis of medical and public health studies. Focus is primarily on evaluating design and statistical aspects of published health science studies and effectively communicating results. Prerequisite: STAT 1110, STAT 1410, STAT 2430, or STAT 3210. Catamount Core: QR.
Section Expectation
This course will use a "flipped classroom". Students will be required to complete readings and watch videos before material is discussed in class. Class time will focus on clarifying challenging concepts presented in the reading and videos, activities, discussion, and completing problem sets. Attendance and participation (in person) are required and worth 10% of the course grade. Preparation assignments can be completed for credit only BEFORE class meetings in which the material is discussed. There will be no credit given for completing preparation assignments after the due date, but three preparation assignments will be dropped. Students will need to bring laptops to class. There will be no cost associated with textbooks or other class materials. We will use an open-source textbook and software that is free to UVM students.

Evaluation will be based on: Attendance & Participation (10%) Prep assignments (20%) Problem sets (20%) Midterm (25%) Final (25%)
