Exercise Science: Applied Kinesiology

Foundational course examining applied kinesiology of human movement with focus on musculoskeletal anatomy. Prerequisite: Minimum Sophomore Exercise Science major.

EXSC 2750 is an Applied Kinesiology course designed to teach students how the human body moves. There is a strong focus on learning musculoskeletal anatomy as it relates to human movement. Students will learn anatomy of the skeletal system and the major skeletal muscles from multiple resources. Students will learn origins, insertions, primary actions, and secondary actions of the muscles and how they relate to human movement. Student will be introduced the innervation of each skeletal muscle. This course provides the foundational knowledge on the primary movers of the human musculosketal system, essential scaffolding course work for the successful EXSC student.

At the completion of EXSC 2750, the student will be able to: 1. Understand planes of movement as related to human movement. 2. Use appropriate terminology to describe motion available at each joint in the human body. 3.Demonstrate a knowledge of major bony landmarks on the skeletal system 4.Demonstrate a knowledge of nerve supply/ innervation for each muscle 5.Demonstrate an understanding of origins and insertions (or proximal and distal attachments) of all major skeletal muscles in the human body. 6. Apply concepts of kinesiology understand primary and secondary actions of each muscle. 7. Apply concepts of kinesiology to stretching / flexibility exercises allowing students to be able to stretch all skeletal muscles

Students will be evaluated on class participation, homework, exams and lab work
