Section Description
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the history of dance, tracing its evolution from ancient times when it served sacred and ritualistic purposes to the vast array of lively and contemporary styles seen today. The curriculum will mainly focus on the history of Ballet and Modern Dance and cover various aspects of this intriguing art form, highlighting its cultural significance and development throughout history.
Section Expectation
The course is centered around three main areas of study: 1. Dance Ethnology: Identify prominent dance figures who have influenced the field, emphasizing aspects of traditions, history, and ethnic contexts. 2. Cultural Diversity: Explore how early cultural forms, including sacred ceremonies, rituals, and beliefs, have shaped various dance traditions. 3. Social and Political Context: We will thoroughly examine the historical factors that have played a crucial role in shaping today’s vibrant and diverse dance scene. Additionally, students will be involved in a diverse range of activities, from reading essays and viewing performances to participating in discussions, taking practical dance classes, and reflecting on their experiences. This variety of approaches is intended to foster a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
