Section Description

Section Description: This is an optional off campus clinical experience for students who may wish to supplement clinical hours in the semester between fall of the second year and spring of the second year. This optional clinical course is included in the clinical practicum sequence in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). Graduate students will be expected to provide services to individuals with communication disorders at an off-campus practicum site that they have identified. Supervised practicum will include experience with client/patient populations across the lifespan & from culturally/linguistically diverse backgrounds. Experience with client/patient populations with various types & severities of communication &/or related disorders, differences, & disabilities will also be included.

Section Expectation

Section Expectations: In addition to time spent in direct service to the client, additional time will be required for preparation and management of the assigned cases(s) including necessary clinical documentation.

Evaluation

Evaluation The final grade for this course will be the grade assigned for performance in the off-campus site. Assessment in clinical practicum is ongoing. Feedback on planning, implementation, & evaluation of sessions is given on a weekly basis during meetings with supervisor (s). A formal evaluation of performance will be conducted at the end of the short semester. Students will be expected to self-critique accurately, responsibly, & insightfully.
