Section Description

CHIN 1200 “The First Year College Chinese II” is a continuation of CHIN 1100 “The First Year College Chinese I”, seeking to develop students' communicating ability in the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in simple Chinese. Topics included are food, clothing, time, dates, eating out, birthdays, locations, etc. By the end of the semester, students will get fully ready for CHIN 2100 “The Second Year College Chinese I.

Section Expectation

Meet three times a week in class on MWF. Learn and practice listening, speaking, and reading online and have a biweekly 1-on-1 session on Thursday. Do assigned homework regularly. Practice speaking in class and practice writing basic characters after class. Textbook: Essential College Chinese Book 1, by John Jinghua Yin and Diana Yiqing Sun, published by Beijing Language and Culture University Press and Phoenix Tree Publishing Company, ISBN 9787561950296

Evaluation

Grades are based on attendance, participation, homework, quizzes, and a final exam.
