Advanced group theory and field theory. Prerequisite: Two semesters of abstract algebra required.

Section Description
This course is an introduction to the theory of modules. It includes a general discussion of linear algebra (in free modules over arbitrary commutative rings), the classification of modules over a PID, and an introduction to homological algebra. Peppered throughout is an introduction to categorical language.
Section Expectation
Students should have a strong familiarity with group and ring theory (the content of Algebra I and Algebra II at UVM). Students should also aim to write their arguments clearly, and should have a great deal of experience with proof-writing.
Evaluation
Weekly homework and a final exam.
