Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) technology offers practitioners the ability to utilize ultrasonography outside of the standard radiology venues. This vastly improves access for patients while positively impacting outcomes and experiences for patients and providers. The technology is fairly easy to obtain, but professional, high-quality training—vital for patient safety and diagnostic accuracy—has not been widely available—until now.

With online, on-demand, 24/7 access, our Ultrasound Fundamentals Certificate is designed to provide you with the training you need. Intended for a wide spectrum of healthcare professionals who wish to begin using POCUS, our program will help you build a foundation to meet your own clinical goals, as well as find opportunities to access specialized training upon completion of the certificate.

Developed by Dr. Kristen DeStigter, UVM Larner College of Medicine Chair of Radiology, the Fundamentals of Ultrasound Certificate contains the following knowledge areas:

  • Ultrasound physics
  • Instrumentation
  • Basic anatomy
  • Basic vascular ultrasound
  • Image quality and artifacts
  • Ergonomics
  • Safety
  • Disinfection
  • Exam prep

Modules are designed to prepare you to successfully utilize POCUS in your clinical practice, while adhering to standard safety principles. As you move through the materials, you’ll have a chance to check your knowledge along the way and prepare for formal assessments that will earn you a certificate.

Once you have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Ultrasound Certificate, you can look forward to more specialized modules in areas such as Lung, OB/GYN, Appendix, and Bladder.
