Summer Medical School Prep Program


What can I expect for a time commitment?

Expect a full-time commitment daily, Monday through Thursday. Classroom sessions will take place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and experiential activities, independent learning, and/or mentorship meetings start at 1:00 pm each day.  There will also be some evening sessions for reflection. In July, there will be no class on the 4th and instead there will be class on Friday, the 6th.

Are there pre-requisites for this program?

Yes. Applicants must have successfully completed at least 60 credit hours including completion of Basic Physics, Organic Chemistry, and either Cell Biology or Biochemistry with a grade of C or better. You will be asked to verify that you have met these pre-requisites at the time of registration.

If you do not meet all of these pre-reqs but meet most of them and have demonstrated your ability to succeed as a pre-med student, you can request instructor permission to participate in this program. To request instructor permission, please email a brief explanation of your qualifications for this program and an unofficial transcript (for non-UVM students) to with the subject line “Summer Medical Instructor Permission Request”.

Can I take this program if I have already completed my baccalaureate degree?

Yes, as long as you have successfully met the pre-requisites. We anticipate a balanced mix of undergraduate and post-graduate pre medical students to enroll in this program.

Is housing available for this program?

Yes, but it is not included in the program fee. Students can choose to purchase housing during the registration process and have the option of staying in the cost efficient, newest, green residence halls on campus – University Heights. Single room with linens costs $82 per night and double room with linens costs $59 per night.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes, financial assistance is available based on financial need. Please email the Senior Program Developer, Matt Sayre ( with a Statement of Need (no more than 1 page in length).

Do I have to pay in full at the time of registration?

No. A $500 deposit is required to hold your seat in this program. All payments must be paid in full two weeks prior to the start of the event, which is June 4, 2018. An attendee will not be allowed to attend this offering if a balance is due.

What is the refund policy?

If you need to cancel your attendance from this offering, you must notify us via email at at least 15 business days prior to the start date of this offering, May 28, 2018, in order to receive a refund.  Should we receive notice of your cancellation in time; a full refund will be granted for your registration, less a $25 cancellation fee.

What will I receive for completing this program?

Students who successfully complete the program will be provided with a detailed, personalized assessment document to support their application when they apply to medical school. In addition, students will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

Is this program a good fit for me?  Yes, if:

  • You are a current college student interested in strengthening your qualifications to become a stronger applicant to medical and health-professional schools.
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree and strong academic record, but require further development of critical reasoning skills and higher-order learning focused on health and medicine through active team-based, flipped classroom, and hands-on learning experiences, that will help strengthen your application and readiness for admission to medical school.
  • You want to learn much more than the basics covered in the common MCAT prep courses.
