The University of Vermont Gap Year Program is designed for recent high school graduates who have decided to pursue other opportunities before committing to a college experience full-time. As a gap year student, you can explore areas of interest, stay academically engaged, and earn college credit— all while gaining work or other experiences during your gap year. This program is available 100% online, or in-person at the UVM campus. Students can also opt to take this program via hybrid, a mix of in-person and online courses.
As a gap year student, you can choose from hundreds of courses on campus or online to build your college-level GPA or complete admissions requirements. Additionally, while you are enrolled in the UVM Gap Year program courses, you have the option to participate in our Online Enrichment Community. The Community is designed to prepare you for life in college and beyond with strategies for successful online learning, tips for building study skills, and guidance for navigating the college admissions process. The most exciting part, you will get a feel for life and education at the University of Vermont.
At UVM, we are here to help make your dream a reality, whether you decide to pursue a degree, explore a career, or expand your personal and professional enrichment. No matter where you’re going, UVM can get you successfully on the road to higher education.
We remain committed to strengthening our community through convenient and affordable learning opportunities to help you reach higher. That’s why Gap Year students who are enrolled in online courses are eligible for a 30% tuition savings on standard in-state and out-of-state per-credit-hour rates. A signed Gap Year Program/Guaranteed Admission Program (GAP) contract is required to receive these savings.
