About CAS 1310 Z1
Introduction to dialogue, race dialogues, and dialogue facilitation. Includes an exploration of the concept of dialogue as opposed to debate, discussion, and other forms of communication; and offers instruction in the principles and practices of dialogue facilitation. Students practice engaging in dialogues about (and across) race, culminating in the design and co-facilitation of dialogues for their peers.

Section Description
Grounded in social justice education theory, research, and practices, the purpose of this course is to introduce students to dialogue, race dialogues, and dialogue facilitation. We will begin by exploring the concept of dialogue as compared to debate, discussion, and other forms of communication. We will then practice engaging in dialogues about (and across) race. Finally, we will delve into the principles and practices of dialogue facilitation. The course will culminate in students designing and co-facilitating dialogues for their peers. Throughout the semester, students will be asked to reflect on their experiences to more carefully consider the complexity and nuance of identities and interactions in dialogue.
Section Expectation
The required textbook for this course is Stephanie Hicks' (2021) "Introduction to Intergroup Dialogues" - ISBN 978-1-5165-4857-6 This course includes daily reading and writing assignments outside of class, as well as two course projects.
Evaluation
Grades will be based on attendance and participation, weekly assignments, and two course projects.
