Section Description
Describes the historical development of the United States as it became the country we inhabit. Topics include the aftermath of slavery and the creation of a segregated society; urbanization and industrialization; mass immigration; the emergence of the United States as world power; the cultural transformations of the early twentieth century; the effects of depression and world war; the “American Century”; suburbanization; the social effects of the anti-Vietnam War, Civil Rights and women’s movements; and more. If you want to understand the society in which you live, HST 012 is an essential course.
