Section Description
In this survey course we will debate amongst our selves some of the top Public Health problems and concerns happening today. You will learn about the compelling need for creative and multidisciplinary solutions, and how stronger policies to improve the health of the public might be accomplished. ***This course is part of a pilot program that will be using Brightspace, UVM's new learning platform that's replacing Blackboard. Since only a limited number of courses will be piloting Brightspace this coming semester, you are still likely to have courses in Blackboard as well. Section Expectation
Students will be expected to participate in all aspects of the course, including the required readings, lectures, and videos. Active engagement in the online discussion forum (YellowDig) is required and access to Blackboard, Yellowdig, and Microsoft Word is necessary. The required text is: Turnock’s Public Health: What It Is and How It Works (7thed). Birkhead, G.B, Morrow, C.B., Pirani, S.B.: Jones & Bartlett Publishing (2020). ISBN: 978-1-284-18120-3.
Evaluation
1. Discussion (15%) - using Yellowdig with expectation for community involvement 2. Quizzes (20%) - 3 quizzes at beginning of semester 3. Topic Presentations (20%) - You will be asked to make a 6-8 minute audio presentation on one of several public health topics 4. Written Assignments (45%) - 3 writing reflections
