This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of psychological aspects of aging and identifies key lessons and facilitative practices for supporting positive aging. Prerequisites: HDF 161, HDF 189, PSYS 053 or EDFS 209 or SOC 100 or SWSS 164; minimum Junior standing.

Section Description
This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of psychological aspects of aging and identifies key lessons and facilitative practices for supporting positive aging. Prerequisites: Human Development and Family Science majors: HDF 161, HDF 189, minimum Junior standing; Gerontology students: HDF/SOC 020, SOC 120, Instructor Permission; Other students with relevant background: Instructor Permission.
Section Expectation
This is a seminar course that relies upon student engagement through preparing for class sessions and participating in class sessions where required materials are examined and additional materials brought in during class time for consideration. Classes will typically be comprised of a combination of short lectures, large class discussions, small group work, and individual activities and assignments.Guest speakers may be brought in as warranted.
Evaluation
It is expected that students will complete written assignments in preparation for class, and engage in some kind of term paper or project, individually and/or in small groups. Exams may be employe at times as a way to encourage and assess student learning and understanding, and provide opportunities for students to apply their increasing knowledge about and understanding of the psychology of aging to various practice settings.
