Section Description
This class will be taught remotely using Microsoft Teams. It will be asynchronous so we will not have meetings as a class. However, during my virtual office hours in Teams (twice a week), I will provide opportunities to meet me to practice Spanish or ask me questions about the topics from the textbook. These opportunities will be in addition to the online oral/speaking activities from the Supersite that you will be completing during the course. Intermediate Spanish 051 is a course designed to provide a communicative learning experience that works to expand students' ability to interact with others successfully in Spanish. To achieve these goals, we will devote time on grammar and vocabulary. We will also work on activities that are geared toward helping students develop the all-important ability to make use of Spanish in their own lives, both inside and outside the classroom. Therefore, the development of successful reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension skills are key goals in this class. Be aware that in this course you will have to memorize and practice vocabulary and grammar structures from the textbook which is also a skill needed to become fluent in Spanish.
Section Expectation
The University of Vermont respects the Department of Education’s definition of a credit hour. For every hour spent in class, you are expected to spend approximately 2 hours outside of class. Thus, in SPAN 051, a 3-credit course, you should plan to spend about 6 hours a week outside of the classroom preparing assignments and studying.
Evaluation
Weekly quizzes, HW assignments (Supersite activities), etc.
