Section Description
Math 121 is a four credit course in calculus of functions of several variables, usually of two variables; and calculus of vector valued functions. It is for students in mathematics, statistics, computer science, physical sciences and engineering. I think that it is great mathematics, especially the last chapter, vector calculus. I also think that it is hard mathematics, especially the last chapter, vector calculus. But, if you got through first year calculus, you will be successful if you do the work. We start off considering calculus of vector valued functions of one variable. We then will do a long chapter on the differential calculus of functions of several variables; followed by a chapter on the integral calculus of several variables. All good mathematics. We tie everything together by studying the calculus of vector valued functions of several variables. Great mathematics is in this chapter. This course is entirely on line. I will send you a calendar as to which topics and sections should be covered when. Notes will be posted on Blackboard. I will send you links to videos that I have made as well as links to other videos that I think might be helpful.
Section Expectation
You are expected to have a solid mastery of first year calculus along with strong algebra skills and a pretty good knowledge of basic trig. To cover this course in six weeks, you should expect to put in at least four hours a day on the course. The homework sets take time. You will also need mathematica to do the homework and take the tests. I will send out a separate email which covers the different options in purchasing Mathematica.
Evaluation
Your grade will determined by six tests; one per week; as well as the homeworks.
