About MATH 022 OL1

Vectors and vector operations. Techniques and applications of integration. Polar coordinates, Taylor polynomials, sequences and series, power series. Prerequisite: C- or better in MATH 021. Credit will not be given for both MATH 022 and MATH 023.

Section Description

Calculus II is a continuation of the study of the calculus of functions of one variable begun in MATH 021. Topics will include techniques of integration, including integration by parts, trigonometric substitution, and partial fractions; applications of integration, including arc length and surface area; parametric equations and polar coordinates; sequences and series, including analytic tests for convergence; Taylor series; complex numbers; and an introduction to vectors in two and three dimensions. Topics will be presented with a level of depth and rigor appropriate for students pursuing degrees in technical fields such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, or the physical sciences. A strong background in algebra and pre-calculus, as well as satisfactory completion of MATH 021, are necessary pre-requisites for the course. Students coming from the MATH 019 – 020 sequence without having taken MATH 021 are advised to take MATH 023 instead of MATH 022. This course is completely on line. On each topic, I will send you a link to a video that I made, as well as links to other videos on the same topic. Notes will be posted as well. I will send you a calendar as to which topics should be covered when.

Section Expectation

You are to have a solid knowledge of first semester calculus for engineers and math majors. To cover this course in six weeks, you should expect to spend at least 4 hours a day on the course. There will be homework on Webassign. Webassign is a computer system for homeworks and tests. I will send you an email in May on the different options to purchase Webassign.


Your grade will be based on six exams; one a week as well as on the homeworks. These will be done online.
