The application of graphic design principles to practical problems, including the impact of popular design on society, and the exploration of visual elements in contemporary printing processes. Prerequisites: ARTS 001 or ARTS 012.

Section Description
In this course we explore graphic design and graphic arts in print and online media. Students will learn graphic design basics such as color, balance, transparency, typography, grids and gestalt. We will work with Adobe Creative suite and build skills in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. We will also practice design thinking strategies like formstorming and mind mapping. Projects will be printed and exhibited.
Section Expectation
Enrolled students must have access to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Beginners are welcome, there is no expectation that students have worked with design software before taking the class. Students should have an interest in graphic arts and design, and a desire to learn how to work professionally with computer tools. Enrolled students must have access to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Evaluation
Students are graded on the quality of their work and the effort they put into assignments. Students in the class are encouraged to take risks and work with abstract concepts. The course requires consistent attendance and active participation in class.
