Section Description
Public Health focused internship course open to students from across campus. The only requirement is that students have taken introduction to public health. We are identifying partners/internship sites (that students will chose from), and the program will run from the end of May-mid August. The internship placements will provide a planned and supervised opportunity for students to work on a meaningful project related to health equity, health disparities, health education/promotion, management, advocacy, delivery or some other aspect of health systems/services. Additionally, placements will provide students with an experience in a health organization setting that exposes you to career paths in the public health field as well as opportunities for developing leadership and professional skills applicable to various health-related settings.
Section Expectation
Students will be expected to complete about 120 hours at a site within this timeframe, to get 3 credits. There will be some associated academic work (reflections and a final poster), and a pre-service workshop; Topics covered will include: the benefits, challenges and responsibilities of community-engaged learning, professionalism, leadership, communication and engaging with diverse populations. We will also assemble at the end of the internships to share our work with each other.
