Screening, examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, management and outcomes for patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions are covered. Topics include pathophysiology, risk appraisal, medical and surgical management, and biopsychosocial considerations in the management of these conditions across the lifespan. Prerequisites: Graduate student enrollment in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.

Section Description
Foundational knowledge of cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy evaluation and management. Students will gain experience in physical therapy examination, evaluation, treatment planning, interventions, prognosis and outcomes for patients with cardiac and pulmonary disease. Students learn and apply anatomy, physiology, epidemiology, and pathology as they explore the issues of disease risk and prevention for individuals across the lifespan with various cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions. They also will explore and study the medical, surgical, pharmacological, psycho-social and physical therapies in the management of these patient populations. This course includes lecture, laboratory, and case discussion/analysis. Emphasis is on history-taking, systems review, physical therapy examination, diagnosis, prognosis, evaluation, and development of a plan of care for individuals with common cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions seen by physical therapists in all settings.
Section Expectation
Attendance in all lectures and participation in all laboratory sessions expected.
Evaluation
Written and practical exams, quizzes, clinical encounters, and clinical simulation case scenario.
