This course examines how technology can promote a student-centered active learning classroom environment that promotes problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Prerequisite: Prior teaching experience.

This course engages educators in a student-centered, active learning experience using technology resources and tools to promote questioning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Educators will learn about technology and makerspace resources & tools that support project-based and inquiry-based learning in ALL disciplines (including literacy and STEAM) and design a project- or inquiry-based learning experience.

Section Expectation

The following are necessary for successful completion of this course: Access to internet to actively participate weekly learning tasks and online class discussions of readings and literature Completion of assigned reflections in choice of private or shared journal. Participation and documentation in a Personally meaningful inquiry/project. Depending on your choice of project, you may need access to materials and tools. Complete Summative Performance Tasks - designing a learning activity. Attendance Expectations: Online participation in Blackboard is expected. Students will receive weekly modules to complete assignments and posts. Active participation in class discussions of readings and literature is required each week. Video conferencing with instructor and peers as needed to complete learning goals. Contributions in Class: Participants are expected to review all links in the Blackboard course posted in the lessons during each module. Participants should also take an active role in class discussions around new information from assigned readings and classroom applications. Participation in discussion forum topics must be timely with daily postings anticipated. Students should expect to log in to course-related web sites several times a week.
