Section Description
This course will look at some of the most important coming-of-age films in the US and around the world, including Breakfast Club, Heathers, Mean Girls, Perks of Being a Wallflower, 10 Things I Hate About You, Raw, Girlhood, and Twilight. The course will examine the problem of conformity at it arises in these films and look at theoretical approaches to the abandonment of freedom. The principal theorists will include Stanley Milgram, Byung-Chul Han, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Hannah Arendt.
Section Expectation
Watch the films, do the readings, come to class, and take the exams. One must demonstrate nonconformity in relation to the expectations.
