Meets or exceeds the standards of the Wilderness First Responder minimum course contents established by the Wilderness Medical Society. Successful course completion results in certification for Wilderness First Responder by Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO).

Section Description
The course focuses on the assessment and management of environmental emergencies, trauma and medical problems in the wilderness or austere environment. It provides a foundation of basic emergency care through a series of lectures, small group activities and skills labs. There is no online component to this course. In person classes begin January 3 and will run through January 13. There will be one eight hour field exercise off campus. Transportation will be provided. Successful completion of the course allows students to test for two certifications: • Wilderness First Responder – Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO) • Basic Life Support (CPR) – American Heart Association
Section Expectation
There are no prerequisites for this course. It is expected that students have experience participating in winter outdoor activities (skiing, snowshoeing, etc.)
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated with a comprehensive final certification exam. Skills competencies and a Co-learning presentation will be evaluated. Attendance is mandatory.
