Section Description

Online class. CSD 312 is part two of an advanced graduate level seminar sequence offered through the Vermont Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental & Related Disabilities (VT LEND) Program. (www.uvm.edu/medicine/vtlend). The course is designed based on the Maternal and Child Health Leadership Competencies (http://leadership.mchtraining.net/): 1) neurodevelopmental and related disabilities 2) interdisciplinary process and collaborative teaming 3) cultural competence, 4) family-centered care 5) Leadership in Maternal Child Health Student Learning Objectives: 1. Define diagnosis, etiology (cause) and implementation strategies for individuals with NDD/ASD. [ASHA Standard III-D & E] 2. Describe ways to partner with families, and work collaboratively in providing family-centered, culturally responsive, high quality integrated services (health, education, developmental services). [ASHA Standard III-E &G] 3. Define issues related to nutrition, sexuality, self-advocacy, and quality of life impacting individuals with disabilities and their families. [ASHA Standard III-E &G] 4. Describe cultural perspectives of health/disability and self-determination of diversity including race, ethnicity, SES that are currently impacting the lives of children and families. [ASHA Standard III-E &G] 5. Develop and use technology as a learning and clinical tool.

Section Expectation

Participate in weekly online discussion board; complete class assignments/projects.

Evaluation

Graded on weekly discussion board posts (3 posts/week is expected) and chapter summaries from book on disability incarceration and inequity.
