Project-based course. Principles of computer-aided drafting/design; production of engineering drawings including: orthographic, auxiliary, section, pictorials and dimensioning, graphics and charts; applications in specific engineering disciplines.

This is an introductory course on the creation of geometric solid representations of physical objects using three dimensional Computer Aided Design software. Upon successful completion of this course, students will master the following subtopics 1) graphic communication methods for orthographic, auxiliary, section and pictorial representation of shape. 2) design automation tools including those used for replication; patterning; extrusion & rotation. 3) dimension standards, dimensioning methods and basic tolerances.
This course combines lecture and discussion formats. Students should expect to spend 6-8 hours a week on coursework & background reading outside of class, with additional time for the semester-long project. Grades are based on attendance and participation; weekly assignments; quizzes; a midterm exam on theory; a midterm practicum; a final exam on theory; a final practicum.
