Section Description

BCOR 11, Exploring Biology, is the first semester introductory biology course for life science majors, focusing on cell biology, genetics, and physiology. It will cover topics in basic biochemistry, cell structure, photosynthesis and respiration, DNA structure and function, plant physiology, and animal physiology.

Section Expectation

This course combines lectures in a large-capacity lecture hall, and weekly laboratory exercises involving group and individual work. Students should expect to spend 2-4 hours per week on coursework outside of class, with additional time for exam preparation.

There are typically: three mid-term exams and one final exam, weekly homework, in-class participation, and laboratory assignments. The laboratory component counts for about a quarter of the total points and you must pass both lecture and lab to pass the course.
